Bang Pa-in Palace - Ayutthaya
Bang Pa-In Palace is located on the Chao Phraya River bank in Bang Pa-In district, Ayutthaya Province. The Palace was built by King Prasat Thong also known as the Summer Palace.
Bang Pa-In Palace was build in 1632, and though it lay empty and overgrown throughout the late 18th and early 19th century, King Mongkut began to restore the site in the mid-1800s. Most of the present buildings were constructed between 1872 and 1889 by King Chulalongkorn.
Bang Pa-In Palace comprises a collection of buildings of various ages and various architectural styles surrounded by a lake.
Bang Pa-In was the residence of all the kings in the Ayutthaya period but it was let unoccupied when Bangkok became the capital.
The facilities include vast gardens and landscaping, Wehart Chamrunt , a Chinese-style Royal Palace and throne room; the Warophat Phiman, a royal residence; Ho Withun Thasana , a brightly-painted lookout tower; and the Aisawan Thiphya-Art , a pavilion constructed in the middle of a pond.
Visitors can only go inside two of these building
1. Phra Thi Nang Wehat Chamrun - a Chinese-style building intended for use during rainy seasons.
2. Phra Thi Nang Withun Thatsana.
Visitors are requested to be dressed properly and appropriately upon entering the ground of Bang Pa-In
Palace. Thus the following dress – code (applicable to both ladies and gentlemen) will be strictly enforced:
1. Shorts, mini-skirts, short skirts, tight fitting trousers, as well as tights can not be worn as outer
garments.2. See-through shirts and blouses, as well as culotters or quarter length trousers can not be worn.3. Sleeveless shirts or vests can not be worn as outer garments.4. Sandles (without ankle or heel straps) can not be worn.5. All shirt sleeves, whether long or short, can not be rolled up.6. Sweat shirts and sweat pants, wind-cheaters, pajamas and fisherman trousers can not be worn.

How to get there:
Bang Pa-In Palace is often approached as a tour from Bangkok and often combined with a visit to Wat Niwet Thamaprawat which is directly opposite the palace. It is possible to get there yourself by van from Chao Phrom Market in Ayutthaya (fare 10 Baht) or bus from the Northern Bus Terminal in Bangkok (fare around 20 Baht for an ordinary bus and around 50 Baht for an air-conditioned bus). There are also river tours available directly from Bangkok.
